CALL FOR APPLICATION – CERN SUMMER STUDENT PROGRAMME 2026

The Academy of Sciences Malaysia (ASM) is pleased to announce that Malaysia has been given the opportunity to nominate undergraduate and master’s degree students in the fields of Physics, Engineering, Computing Sciences and/ or Mathematics to apply for CERN Summer Student Programme (CSSP) 2026. This transformative programme, spanning 8 to 13 weeks between June and September 2026, invites participants to actively engage in the day-to-day operations of research teams conducting experiments at CERN in Geneva, Switzerland.

While the scientific value of the program is unquestionable, selected students can anticipate more than just ground-breaking research. The CSSP promises an immersive experience in a diverse, multidisciplinary environment, offering a unique opportunity for personal enrichment. This isn't just an ordinary summer program; it's a singular chance for participants to establish invaluable connections with peers and scientists from across the globe. Since 2012, the coveted nomination for the CSSP has been an annual affair, welcoming candidates from all corners of public and private higher learning institutions nationwide. 

Eligibility Conditions

  1. Applicants must be bachelor's or master's students in Physics, Engineering, Computing Science, and/or Mathematics. Bachelor's students must have completed at least six (6) semesters of full-time studies at the university level.
  2. Remain registered as a student during your stay at CERN. You are eligible to apply if you are expected to graduate during the European summer of 2026 (as of May).
  3. Must not be an employee of CERN (such as Trainee, Technical Student, User, etc.).
  4. Need to have a good knowledge of English; knowledge of French would be an advantage.

Application Process

  1. All applications must be submitted online through an online form:

  1. Applicants are required to submit the following documents in the online form:
    1. Latest Curriculum Vitae (CV)
    2. A copy of most recent academic transcript
    3. Two compulsory reference letters from your lecturers and/or previous internships. The letters should be dated less than 12 months.

Please submit the documents clearly labelled (e.g. “CV”, “Academic Transcript”, “Reference Letter”) in PDF format to complete the application.

The application deadline is on the 26 January 2026 at 12:00PM. Please ensure that the submissions made are complete to allow a smooth application process.
