CALL FOR NOMINATIONS 2026 L’ORÉAL-UNESCO FOR WOMEN IN SCIENCE INTERNATIONAL AWARDS (LIFE AND ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES) SUBMISSION DEADLINE : 4 JULY 2025

We are pleased to announce the opening of the 2026 Call for Nominations for the prestigious L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science International Awards, dedicated this year to the Life and Environmental Sciences.
Since 1998, this award has recognized and celebrated exceptional women scientists from around the world. In 2026, five outstanding female researchers will be honoured – one from each of the following regions:
- Africa and the Arab States
- Asia and the Pacific
- Europe
- Latin America and the Caribbean
- North America

Each Laureate will be selected for her exceptional contribution to scientific advancement, with strong impact in her field, commitment to education and mentoring, and alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Eligibility Criteria
Nominees must:
- Be internationally recognized for scientific excellence.
- Be actively conducting research in Life and Environmental Sciences.
- Have worked in their current region for at least 10 years.
- There is no age limit.
Who Can Nominate?
Nominations must be submitted by qualified scientists, including:
- Heads of scientific institutions or universities
- Members of national academies
- Full professors
- Research chair holders
- Past L’Oréal-UNESCO Laureates
- PhD holders in science
Self-nominations and family nominations are not accepted.
Required Documents
- Nomination letter (200–400 words)
- Suggested citation (max. 40 words)
- Full CV (2–3 pages) + links to scientific profiles
- Full list of publications
- Key patents (if applicable)
- Top 10 significant publications (with impact summary & citations)
- 3–5 letters of recommendation (external to nominee's institution)

Biochemistry, Ecology, Neuroscience, Immunology, Oncology, Environmental Health, Marine Biology, Geosciences, Public Health, Biotechnology, Agricultural Sciences and more.

The five 2026 Laureates will be selected by an international jury of eminent scientists based on:
- The candidate's research and its impact on science and society.
- The candidate's recognition by her peers - within her discipline.
- The candidate's engagement in teaching, mentoring, and/or towards the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) more broadly.
Awards Ceremony
The 2026 Laureates will be honoured in Paris during the For Women in Science Week in June 2026 (TBC).
